Representing Records: 18 September 2014

Artstor’s Shared Shelf cataloging system is comprised of many different types of records linked among one another in various configurations. These may include authority records such as Names and Places or simple cataloging records like Items.

Catalogers often work on multiple types of records in any given session. To aid record recognition and provide greater visual differentiation, we are creating a customized icon set specific to the needs of Shared Shelf to allow users to quickly identify which part of the system they are working on. As the set of icons expand, an entire iconographic vocabulary will be built to represent common cataloging actions.
